Crying Contest is the chaotic brainchild of Austin-based musician/songwriter/vocalist Tyler Dozier (Lady Dan) and Nashville-based musician/producer/arranger Carson Cody. The two have manufactured a brand of heavy but danceable EBM with hints of goth, witch house, and metal elements. Their unique take on the legendary Leonard Cohen’s “You Want it Darker” takes the song into the club world. Dark swirling synths and brutal industrial bass combine into a frenetic mix befitting the sweatiest dancefloors. Dozier’s vocal delivery is sinister, building into an unholy scream as Cody’s production contracts and expands in a final climax. The new track marks Dozier and Cody’s second annual Halloween cover, following last year’s dark, horror-movie-inspired take on “Just The Two Of Us”.
